As the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S.A. is approaching
people often consider things they are thankful for. This may include things
some individuals take for granted such as: running water, electricity, a car,
etc.
We, at PowerCom, are thankful that we were able to be part
of the Haiti Rural Energy Forum; it was hosted by the Government of Haiti. They
discussed important topics, such as:
- Governmental challenges and strategies to increase the availability of sustainable electricity for rural parts of Haiti
- · Views of National Experts on the current status of rural energy
- · The effects of wood fuel and household energy in rural areas
- · International energy projects and is it feasible to replicate those projects in Haiti
- · Innovative solutions to increase energy access
- · And more
What is the Haiti Rural Energy Forum?
This was a free event that was by invitation only. It was
hosted by Government of Haiti and Électricité d'Haïti
(EdH). Sustainable Energy for All
(SE4ALL) initiated this event and it’s supported by The Inter-American
Development Bank (IDB) and World Bank Group.
It was an event where
Governmental challenges were discussed. National experts gave their viewpoint
of the energy status and international projects were considered as possible
solutions to Haiti’s plan to make energy available throughout the country.
“Haiti is now the first Caribbean nation eligible to access
game-changing funding from the Scaling up Renewable Energy Program (SREP). This
will provide the Government of Haiti with the necessary resources to prepare
the enabling environment for private investors to enter Haiti and develop wind,
solar, hydro and biomass projects. Multiple other sources of funding and
support are available from entities such as the Government of Norway, USAid,
and others.”
PowerCom’s Solution and the role it played in the Haiti Rural Energy Forum
We feel honored to be a part of the Haiti Rural Energy Forum.
The part we had was to ensure the event ran smoothly and quickly. By utilizing
PowerCom’s wireless voting solution, also known as Audience Response System
(ARS), the event coordinators were able to ask specific questions for the
audience to answer. The ARS solution helped speed up the process. By counting
the votes quickly and in real-time it allowed the presenters the opportunity to
optimize the time they were given.
By utilizing a keypad solution to answer the questions, the
presenters and audience were able to connect with one another. The presenters
were able to expand on the topics that the audience wanted to hear more about.
